چکیده

The emerging field of the learning sciences is one that is interdisciplinary, drawing on multiple theoretical perspectives and research paradigms so as to build understandings of the nature and conditions of learning, cognition, and development. Learning sciences researchers investigate cognition in context, at times emphasizing one more than the other but with the broad goal of developing evidence-based claims derived from both laboratory-based and naturalistic investigations that result in knowledge about how people learn. This work can involve the development of technological tools, curriculum, and especially theory that can be used to understand and support learning. A fundamental assumption of many learning scientists is that cognition is not a thing located within the individual thinker but is a process that is distributed across the knower, the environment in which knowing occurs, and the activity in which the learner participates. In other words, learning, cognition, knowing, and context are irreducibly co-constituted and cannot be treated as isolated entities or processes. If one believes that context matters in terms of learning and cognition, research paradigms that simply examine these processes as isolated variables within laboratory or other impoverished contexts of participation will necessarily lead to an incomplete understanding of their relevance in more naturalistic settings (Brown, 1992).1 Alternatively, simply observing learning and cognition as they naturally THE JOURNAL OF THE LEARNING SCIENCES, 13(1), 1–14 Copyright © 2004, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc.

OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE-BASED DESIGN OF CONCENTRICALLY BRACED STEEL FRAMES SUBJECTED TO NEAR-FAULT GROUND MOTION EXCITATIONS

This paper presents a practical methodology for optimization of concentrically braced steel frames subjected to forward directivity near-fault ground motions, based on the concept of uniform deformation theory. This is performed by gradually shifting inefficient material from strong parts of the structure to the weak areas until a state of uniform deformation is achieved. In this regard, to ove...

Exploring the Fishing by Stake-nets inside the Qeshm Island's Marine Protected Area

High population pressure in coastal areas has led to loss in many mangrove areas. Although these areas are fish nursery grounds, but there are no accurate and up-to-date data available. In this research, the catch data in the Qeshm Island marine protected area (MPA) were investigated using 11 stake nets. Totally, 81 specimens belong to 60 genera and 63 families caught, which majority of them we...

ERFORMANCE-BASED SEISMIC DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF COMPOSITE MOMENT RESISTING FRAMES WITH CONCERETFILLED STEEL COLUMNS AND STEEL BEAMS

In this paper, an optimization framework is developed for performance-based seismic design of composite moment frames consisting of concrete filled steel box columns and I-shaped steel beams. Material cost of the structure and seismic damage under severe earthquake ground motions are minimized as objective functions. Two design examples are presented to demonstrate the applicability and efficie...

Seismic Design of Steel Structures Based on Ductility and Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis

In this paper a simple tool for seismic design of steel structures for a selected ductility level is presented. For this purpose, a consistent set of earthquakes is selected and sorted based on the maximum acceleration of ground surface. The selected records are applied as the base motion to a single-degree-of-freedom system with strain hardening and the maximum response acceleration is determi...

Explaining the Safavid hunting ground Corner and Medallion carpet design, (case study: the Poldi Pezzoli Museum hunting ground Carpet).

Hunting and animal’s combat design of animals in the Safavid era has been reflected in various compositions of carpet designs as they are combined with Floral, Medallion, and Corner and Medallion patterns. One of the significant examples of a hunting ground corner and Medallion carpet are the ones held in the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, Milan. In this carpet, hustling hunting scenes have been depicte...
